Space Heater Safety

WWYD Wednesday

The heat is out. Your portable heater’s cord will not reach the outlet, but an extension cord and power strip are nearby.

WWYD: use either shortcut, rearrange the room to reach the wall outlet, or choose another option? How far should the heater be from blankets, curtains, furniture, and rugs?

Fact Check Friday

Plug portable space heaters directly into a wall outlet. Do not use extension cords or power strips: the electrical load can overheat cords, plugs, or outlets.

Keep at least 3 feet of clearance from anything that can burn. Turn the heater off when you leave the room or go to sleep. A small heater can create a big hazard without a safe setup.
